Can anyone take these courses?

This website provides CE courses for ophthalmic medical personnel who are currently certified or who are applying for certification.  These courses are not part of an accredited school or training program.  The courses on this website are not open to the general public.  For more information on ophthalmic schools and training programs, please call the Joint Commission at 800-284-3937.

How much do the courses cost?

Each group A credit has a fee of $13, with no minimum.  The Joint Commission has changed the way that courses are given credit, so not every course is worth 1 credit hour.  Some are worth .5 or .75 credit hour.  The fee is reduced accordingly for those courses.

Can I pay with a credit card?

Yes, you can submit post-tests online and pay online with a credit card.  You will receive credit confirmation within 24 hours.

How much credit is each course worth and who gives the credit?

Most  modules are worth one Joint Commission group A credit, but some are worth .5 or .75 credit, depending upon how the Joint Commission evaluated them.  We offer credits for no other organizations at this time with the exception of credits for the Ophthalmic Photographer's Society (OPS).  If you would be interested in receiving credit from another organization, e-mail me.

How do I get my CE credit confirmation?

Your credit confirmation is available from a page on this website.  To access the page, go to the homepage and click on the quick link on the left side of the page that says "CE credit confirmation".  Just follow the directions on that page.  You will download a PDF file that can be saved to your computer and/or it can be printed from the PDF window.

What is the basic procedure?

1. Read the material, print the post-test,  and take the post-test.

2. Submit your answers online or send an answer form to us in the mail.

3. Pay for your credits online or send a check in the mail.

Go to the payment options page first for complete instructions.  All courses start on the catalog page.   Click on a module of your choice to begin.

Do I need a password?

No password is needed.  Anyone can view the material at any time.  Read the material at your own pace, on your own schedule.  It's really simple!

How long does it take to receive a credit confirmation?

We take pride in our fast response.  Online submission receives confirmation via a webpage within 24 hours.  To get your confirmation, go to the homepage and click on the "Quick link" on the left side that says "CE credit confirmation".  Post-tests mailed in are scored within a day of being received.  Your credit confirmation will be mailed to you the next business day.

What does the course expiration date mean?

If you found the courses via the Joint Commission web site, you may have noticed that there is an expiration date associated with each course.  This means that we have to send an application and pay a fee to the Joint Commission by that date to renew the certification for the course.  Some courses may be replaced with new material on the expiration date, if so, there will be notification in the old course material that there is an expiration date.

What do others think about the courses?

All courses have received very high marks on the evaluation forms.  For comments about the courses, follow this link.

What courses do you offer?

The courses cover a variety of subjects.  Follow this link to view the catalog.

How do I get started?

Go to the 4 Easy Steps page first for complete instructions.  All courses start on the catalog page.   Click on a module of your choice to begin.

What happens if I don't pass a post test?

You can miss 3 questions out of 15 and still pass the post-test.  If you miss 4 or more questions, you will be given the opportunity to re-submit  the post-test.  If you miss 4 or more questions the second time, you will not receive credit unless you pay the fee again and submit another post-test and pass the test.

The questions are designed to confirm that you read the material, but they are not super-difficult.  The CE credit confirmation page lists the question numbers for each Module that you submitted and tells you if you answered correctly (indicated by a "1") or incorrectly (indicated by a "0").

How do I find the post-test?

There is a link to the post-test on the menu bar of each module.  If the module only has one section, then the link will be on that page.  If the module has more than one section, the link will be found on the menu bar of the last section.  There is also a page that has links to all of the post-tests.  You can get to this page from the quick links sections of the homepage.
