Pre-requisites:  None, although a knowledge of basic ophthalmic optics is helpful.

Description of content:   

 

This module gives a short history of refractive surgery and gives descriptions of the various refractive procedures available today.

 

Instructional  objectives:  Upon completion of  this section,  the student should be able to:

  • give the full name of the refractive procedures that are best known by acronyms

  • identify characteristics particular to the various refractive procedures

  • define terminology associated with refractive procedures

   
 

About the Authors: 

 

Jean Hausheer, MD, FACS has been a practicing ophthalmologist since 1985.  She has multiple refractive procedure certifications and has been a refractive surgeon since 1985.  She is Clinical Associate Professor in the Department of Ophthalmology at the UMKC School of Medicine.  She served as consultant and reviewer for this module.

 

Gary Gallimore is a certified ophthalmic technologist who assists with research at the Eye Foundation of Kansas City and works for a large multi-specialty ophthalmology practice in the metro area of Kansas City.   He has taught CE courses for many years on all subjects of ophthalmic technology.  He served as co-author for this module.
