Module 15:

Visual Fields - Advanced Concepts

 

 

 

OVERVIEW

 

 

 

Estimated study time:  One hour.

 

Program Level:  Advanced.

 

Target Audience:  OMPs presently performing or planning to perform automated perimetry,  particularly with the Humphrey Field Analyzer.

 

Pre-requisites:  Modules 11, 12, 13, and 14 or knowledge of basic visual field concepts.  Some experience with a Humphrey Field Analyzer is helpful, but not required.

Description of content:  This module discusses threshold testing strategy, screening strategies, SITA, SWAP, functional field loss, binocular field testing, Esterman functional tests, fluctuation, and scotomata with steep and sloping margins.

 

Instructional  objectives:  Upon completion of  this section,  the student should be able to:

  • Define terms associated with threshold testing strategy

  • Identify the principle used in most screening strategies

  • Describe the SITA and SWAP strategies

  • List the characteristics of SWAP field testing

  • Identify possible causes of functional field loss

  • List the steps needed to perform binocular field testing

  • Describe Esterman Functional Tests

  • Define fluctuation

  • Describe a scotoma with steep margins and a scotoma with sloping margins
