Module 46:

Pre-requisites:  Knowledge of basic optics is helpful.

Description of content:   

 

This module discusses the four steps in the basic refractometric process: initial sphere power testing, cylinder axis testing, cylinder power testing, and sphere power refinement.

 

Instructional  objectives:  Upon completion of  this section,  the student should be able to:

  • list advantages and disadvantages of retinoscopy, the auto-refractor, the old glasses prescription, and keratometry as starting points for refractometry

  • demonstrate the ability to convert K readings into cylinder axis and power

  • discuss how to set up the phoropter for refractometry

  • list the standard order of testing for refractometry

  • identify correct procedures used in the refractometric process
