Description of content:   

 

This module discusses add powers, characteristics of astigmatism, and the red green test for spherical refinement.

 

Instructional  objectives:  Upon completion of  this section,  the student should be able to:

  • discuss the significance of add powers lesss than 1 D and greater than 2.5 D

  • identify sets of astigmatic axes that are symmetrical

  • explain how knowledge of the symmetrical nature of astigmatism can help in the refractometry process

  • identify against-the-rule astigmatism

  • explain the advantage of against-the-rule astigmatism

  • explain the advantage of with-the-rule-astigmatism

  • define the Javal Rule

  • calculate the amount and axis of astigmatism from K readings

  • explain what the astigmatic dial is used for

  • identify procedures associated with the astigmatic dial

  • explain what the red/green test is used for

  • identify procedures used with the red/green test

   
 

About the Author:
